Rebecca Mathan is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Multimedia University, Melaka, Malaysia. She holds an LL.B(Hons), a Certificate in Legal Practice, and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2010. From 2009 to 2015, she served as a Deputy Public Prosecutor under the Attorney General’s Chambers, specializing in criminal trials. She earned her Master of Laws with Distinction from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Her expertise spans criminal law, legal policy, and public interest litigation. In 2023, she was appointed by Malaysia’s Law Minister to co-author a policy paper on the Public Defender’s Act, which was adopted by Parliament in 2025. She is a member of the Inns of Court Malaysia and has served as Deputy Dean of her faculty. Recognized globally for her contributions to legal academia and reform, Ms. Mathan actively engages with professional bodies and international legal communities.
